Katie Gaudreau — the sister of late hockey players Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau — gave birth to her first child, a son, with husband Devin Joyce.
“He’s here. 💙,” Katie, 27, shared via Instagram on Tuesday, June 23. “Matthew Guy Joyce. June 20, 2026 • 9:00 AM • 7lb 10oz • 20inches. The moment our hearts grew bigger than we ever imagined. Welcome to the world, sweet boy. 🤍.”
Katie and Joyce were set to tie the knot in August 2024, but tragically had to postpone their wedding after her brothers were tragically killed by an alleged drunk driver while riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey. Johnny and Matthew were 29 and 31 years old, respectively.
Katie and Joyce eventually married in July 2025. In February, she announced she was expecting the couple’s first child: “Our favorite news to share,” she gushed in a message shared on Instagram.
“This pregnancy hasn’t looked the way I imagined it would. It hasn’t been all sunshine and excitement. There’s been a lot of uncertainty. A lot of fear,” Katie shared via Instagram in March. “It’s been a pregnancy that’s closely monitored and carefully watched, and we’ve been surrounded by so much support.”

The alleged drunk driver involved in Johnny and Matthew’s death, Sean M. Higgins, was charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide, aggravated manslaughter, evidence tampering, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and faces up to 70 years in prison.
In January 2025, Higgins pleaded not guilty, rejecting a plea deal that would have seen him serve 35 years, according to NBC Philadelphia. Last month, a judge denied Higgins’ motion to dismiss the case after the defense claimed the blood alcohol evidence was “misleading.”
