A 36-year-old man is behind bars after allegedly trying to drown his sister in the family’s pool, an incident that escalated into a violent standoff with police, Law&Crime reported on Tuesday, June 23.
The accused, Brandon Michael Holland, now faces one count each of second-degree attempted murder and burglary, along with two counts each of assault and violating a court order, according to a Puyallup Police Department press release.
Law enforcement reported that the incident reportedly took place the night of June 5 at the family’s home on 4th Avenue NW in Puyallup, Washington.
The News Tribune reported that police said Holland had gone back to his family’s home after being kicked out of a friend’s house earlier that day, despite a court order barring him from staying there. That evening, his sister was vacuuming near the living room, where their mother’s bed had been set up for medical reasons.

Authorities said the noise from the vacuuming angered Holland, and tensions quickly escalated. When his mother and sister asked him to move, “Brandon became angry and aggressive and a heated confrontation took place,” court records obtained by The News Tribune.
When his sister said she was calling 911, Holland allegedly told his mother, “That’s OK, I’ll kill her,” before charging at her.
Both siblings fell into the pool, where Holland allegedly tried to drown her.
“[His sister] said that at least one time she was underwater for 10-20 seconds and ran out of air in her lungs before she could use her legs to push off the pool bottom and get her head above water to breathe,” the court documents read.
Their father pulled Holland off his sister, who fled to a neighbor’s house to call the police.
Holland relentlessly kept chasing her, shouting, “Get back here, I’m going to kill you,” before a neighbor intervened, as per the Tribune.
Zion Gregory, 29, was first on scene as the confrontation escalated into a standoff with police, who ultimately shot Holland, according to law enforcement.
Now recovered from his life-threatening injuries, Holland appeared in Pierce County Superior Court on Monday, where he was arraigned on $2 million bail, as per the outlet.
