JD Vance and Usha Vance’s ‘Awkward’ Interaction, Including Him Patting Her Leg, Slammed by Fans

JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, are facing scrutiny after the vice president appeared on the special Father’s Day episode of her Storytime with the Second Lady podcast, on Sunday, June 21.

In a clip from the episode that went viral on X, the husband-and-wife duo were seated next to each other as the second lady, 40, introduced the politician, 41.

“Today’s special reader is my husband, Vice President of the United States, JD Vance,” she remarked. “Thanks for joining us today, honey.”

“Of course. Good to see you,” JD replied before giving her leg a brief pat with his hand.

Fans took to X’s comment section, slamming the couple for their rather formal interaction.

“Nothing says ‘happy marriage’ quite like greeting your own wife as if you just met her,” one wrote.

“Hello female human companion and mating partner. It is pleasant to see you,” a second joked.

“Good to see ya! What? Awkward doesn’t even cover it,” a third chimed in.

“So cringe,” a fourth added.

In the podcast episode, the couple proceeded to read the children’s classic Winnie-the-Pooh.

As Globe previously reported, JD discussed his relationship with Usha in his memoir Communion, revealing he knew he wanted to be with her when he met her at Yale Law School.

“‘I will marry this girl,’ I told my friends. ‘Or I will be a lifelong bachelor,'” he wrote in his book, per USA Today.

After graduating from the Ivy League institution in 2013, the pair tied the knot in 2014. They are parents to sons Ewan, 9, and Vivek, 6, and daughter Mirabel, 4, and are expecting their fourth child in July.
